Dynamic
Range
Description
and Procedure
In this
pro cedure,
a
function
generator
is
used
to
pro
vide
a
DC
v
oltage
to
the
syn
thesizer's
AM
input.
The
syn
thesizer
is
set
to
0
dBm
output p
ow
er. AM
is
enabled
and
a
DC v
oltage is
applied. The
DC v
oltage
is
set
for
maxim
um
AM
without an
o
v
ermo
dulation
indication
to
driv
e
the
syn
thesizer's
mo
dulator
to
the
edge
of
distortion.
The
output
p
o
w
er
is
measured
with a
po
wer
meter.
A
measuremen
t
is
made
in
1
GHz
steps
across
the syn
thesizer's
frequency
range.
This
equipmen
t
lets y
ou measure
down
to
0
30
dBm.
If
y
ou
reac
h
this
lev
el
b
efore
the
syn
thesizer
o
v
ermo
dulates,
the p
ow
er meter
will indicate
an
under
range
measuremen
t.
This
pro
cedure
is
rep
eated
using
the
deep
AM
function
in
the
searc
h
ALC
mo
de.
Asp
ectrum analyzer
is
used
in
place
of
the
p
o
w
er
meter
to
mak
e
the
deep
AM
measuremen
t.
This
equipmen
t
allo
ws y
ou to
measure
do
wn
to
appro
ximately
0
65
dBm.
If
y
our
syn
thesizer
do
es
not
o
v
ermo
dulate
b
ythis
poin
t,
and
y
ou
wish
to
measure
the
p
o
w
er
lev
el
just
b
efore
o
v
ermo
dulation,
use
a
p
o
w
er
supply
to
increase the
DC
v
oltage
supply
to
the
AM
input.
