Glossary
LED Light Emitting Diode
MAC address Media Access Control address, a hardware address that
uniquely identifies each node of a network.
MIO Modular Input/Output; interface specification from
Hewlett-Packard
RJ-45 connector Registered Jack-45, an eight-wire connector used commonly to
connect computers onto a local-area networks (LAN), especially
Ethernets. RJ-45 connectors look similar to the RJ-11
connectors used for connecting telephone equipment, but they
are somewhat wider.
Subnet Mask A mask used to determine what subnet an IP address belongs
to. Subnetting enables the network administrator to further
divide the host part of the address into two or more subnets.
TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol; LAN
(Ethernet) protocol
Telnet A terminal emulation program for TCP/IP networks such as the
Internet.
