8.5 Test compressor
Purpose: To verify that the internal compressor windings are functioning correctly.
Procedure: See below.
Disconnect all power leads from the back of the
fridge.
Remove the rear cover (refer to section 9.2).
Remove the compressor control unit (refer to
section 9.3).
Identify the 3-pin connector on the side of the
compressor.
Using an ohm meter (Ω), test the resistance of the
two motor windings using the following process.
1. Measure the resistance between the centre
and left pins. The reading should be between
approximately 2.0 and 2.5 ohms (Ω).
2. Measure the resistance between the centre
and right pin. The reading should be between
approximately2.0 and 2.5 ohms (Ω).
If resistance across both windings is approximately 2.0-2.5 ohms (Ω), compressor windings are OK.
If either winding shows an open circuit, the compressor is faulty and should be replaced.
