5. Firmware application configuration,
installation and upgrading
5.1. Application configuration
Via the system information page of the web service, use the link 'DSP web page', and then the
link 'config' to navigate to a few application configurations.
Regarding the ANPR algorithm:
use trigger functionality: instead of continiously recognizing (stop-and-go) the plate
recognized may be triggered. This can be done by either sending an XML messages
containing the tags <StartRecognition> with a <Count> subtag, or by setting the 'set
trigger' variable, or by configuring the GP input 0 or 1 to function as trigger. The count
represents the number of frames to apply the recognizer to. The shutter time per frame
is halved each time (up to a minimum). This variation in shutter times enhances the
recognition rate. With the <Append> subtag the multi-trigger can be created at more
than one moment in time. The subtag <MinCharacterConfidence> can be specified to
indicated the character confidence level at which to replace characters by question
marks (up to 2).
fixed ROI (region-of-interest) functionality: this limits the recognition to the area given
by the coordinates (pixel row, column) of the top-left corner and the width and height
of the area.
character to questionmark replacement minimum confidence (0-900): characters that
were read with low quality can be replaced by a question mark (up to 2). Preferably this
value is sent via the trigger subtag <MinCharacterConfidence>.
Regarding the black/white list functionality:
plate on-list check mode: high to low reliability. If a black/white list is given to the
system, a plate is checked against this list and the recognition result messages includes
a Yes (plate on list) / No (plate not on list) indication. This check can allow one
(medium reliability) or two (low reliablity) character mismatches. Note that this
increases the chance for a false hit. To further minimize the number of false hits,
reliablity 'highest' can be set, limiting hits to high-confidence plates (>= 800) only.
Regarding XML messages output:
JPEG quality factor (0=off, 1-99): per default the result images are in JPEG format with
quality 85. You can enable the use of JPEG by setting this to a non-zero value,
otherwise BMP is used. For low confidence results a different quality factor can be used.
When using quality 0, images are in bmp format.
do not include ANPR image in result: the ANPR image may not be included in the
recognition result.
do not include plate cut-out in result: the plate cut-out image may not be included in
the recognition result.
subsample image in message result (0=off, 1=subsample with factor 2). With this
option a subsample of the image can be retrieved instead of the full resolution.
ANPR message volatile back-log maximum size in MB (0-32): a back-log of XML
messages can be configured. In case there is no connection to send the ANPR result
XML messages to, these messages are kept in memory until a new connection is setup.
If the total size of this back-log becomes too large, the image data from the messages
