HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL
If you place an outside call using your voice terminal and cannot be heard, cannot
hear, or you hear static on the line; hang up and try to place the call again before
trying to locate the trouble.
The trouble locating procedures in this manual have been designed so that you can
easily locate a
component
causing trouble in your small business communications
system (Model 820). Also, the trouble locating procedures help you identify and
correct any problem in your system that is caused by incorrect use of certain system
features. When using this manual, you should first read this section completely;
then perform the tests described in the “BASIC TROUBLE TESTS” section.
If you have questions concerning any information contained in this manual, please
call your equipment supplier for help.
For your convenience, the instructions for identifying a cause of trouble are divided
into the following sections:

Before trying to isolate a trouble, you should read this section completely.
At all times, you must:

Conduct tests in the specified order.
To use this manual, you do not need special skills in troubleshooting or electronics.
But you will need to do the following.
FIRST:
Perform the Tests in the “BASIC TROUBLE TESTS” Sec-
tion
When trouble is detected, you should first perform the tests described in the
“BASIC TROUBLE TESTS” section of this manual. These tests give you the simple
