Basic Trouble Tests
SYMPTOM-BASED TESTS
The symptom-based tests are designed to help you decide which system component
is causing the trouble. Find your symptom in the following list and perform the
corresponding test. If your symptom is not in the list, go to the “General Tests”
section.

Voice Terminal Does Not Ring
Cannot Make an Outside Call
Trouble with Indicator Lights, Speaker, or Ringing
Some Custom Features Do Not Work
All Voice Terminals Have No Lights and No Dial Tone (Entire System Down)

Check the volume control setting on the voice terminal. This control is
located on the left-hand edge of your voice terminal. Pushing the control
away from you should increase ringing volume. If you have Basic Service
only, skip to Step 4.
See if your voice terminal has a programmed Do-Not-Disturb button. If it
does, make sure Do-Not-Disturb is not active. If the green light is on
beside the Do-Not-Disturb button, press the button to deactivate the
feature.
Reprogram your line ringing assignments at the voice terminal. Your
voice terminal may have been programmed not to ring. (Refer to the
User’s Guide.)
If trouble persists, go on to the tests in “C. Trouble with Indicator Lights,
Speaker, or Ringing.”
