b.Cleanandexaminetheforwardandaftcompositesegmentedshaft
assembliesforcracks,voids,delamination,andloosepermanent
fasteners.
c.Ifanyoftheabovedriveshaftswasdamagedbyamainrotorblade
strikewherethebladehascontactedthetailboomorhasdamageother
thantorsionaloverload,dothefollowing:
(1)Discardthedamageddriveshaft.
(2)Discardthedriveshaftforwardand/oraftofthedamageddriveshaft,
asapplicable.
(3)Discardtheadjacentbearing(s)andhanger(s),asapplicable.
(4)Discardtheadjacentcouplingdiscpack(s),asapplicable,anddisc
packattachinghardware.
(5)Removetheremainingcomponentsbetweenthetransmissionand
thetailrotorgearbox.
(6)AttachaTHISCOMPONENTWASREMOVEDFROMSERVICE
BECAUSEOFASUDDENSTOPPAGEtagoneachofthese
components.
(7)Cleananddoadetailedinspectionofeachofthesecomponents.
d.Ifanyoftheabovedriveshaftswasdamagedbecauseoftorsional
overload,dothefollowing:
(1)Discardthedamageddriveshaft.
(2)Discardtheadjacentbearing(s)andhanger(s),asapplicable.
(3)Discardallthecouplingdiscpacksanddiscpackattachinghardware.
(4)Removetheremainingcomponentsbetweenthetransmissionand
thetailrotorgearbox.
(5)AttachaTHISCOMPONENTWASREMOVEDFROMSERVICE
BECAUSEOFASUDDENSTOPPAGEtagoneachofthese
components.
(6)Cleananddoadetailedinspectionofeachofthesecomponents.
e.Iftheinspectionshowsnosignsofdamage,thefanshaftassembly
andthesegmentedshaftassembliesareserviceable.
5.Doadetailedinspectionofthetailrotorgearboxasfollows:
a.Examinethetailrotorgearboxforcondition.Discardthetailrotor
gearboxifanyofthefollowingdamageisfound:
b.Ifthereisevidenceofacrackedordistortedhousing,fracturedstuds
ordowelpins,orbentordamagedoutputshaft,discardthetailrotor
gearbox.
c.Ifnodamageisfound,removethetailrotorgearbox.
d.AttachaTHISCOMPONENTWASREMOVEDFROMSERVICE
BECAUSEOFASUDDENSTOPPAGEtagonthetailrotorgearbox.

e.Sendthetailrotorgearboxtoanapprovedrepairfacilityto
disassemble,clean,anddoadetailedinspection.
