  If the motor does not start, first ensure the unit is properly plugged in and try a different outlet. Check the power source fuse, and replace it with a 15-Amp time delay fuse or circuit breaker if necessary. If the brushes are worn, see the Brush Replacement section in the Maintenance and Lubrication section. Also, make sure the handle is locked into one of the four usable positions. If none of these steps work, further assistance from authorized service may be needed.

Another cause could be a dull blade, in which case you should replace or sharpen the blade. Also, ensure you are using the correct blade; replace it with a 12” diameter blade designed for the material you are cutting. Finally, a bent blade can cause these issues, so replace the blade if it is bent.

The motor might be overheated from using a dull or excessively heavy blade, using a non-recommended accessory, or from rapid on/off cycling; use a sharp blade. Also, check if the blade bolt is loose and tighten it. If none of these steps resolve the issue, consult authorized service.

Why won't the head assembly of my Bosch 5412L Saw fully rise or the blade guard fully close?
