Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Troubleshooting Guide, R5.0
July 2005
Chapter 1 General Troubleshooting
1.8.1 Restore the Node Database
1.8.1 Restore the Node Database
Symptom One or more node(s) do not function properly or has incorrect data.
Possible Cause Incorrect or corrupted node database.
Recommended Action Complete the “Restore the Database” procedure on page 1-108.
Restore the Database
Caution E1000-2 cards lose traffic for approximately 90 seconds when an ONS 15454 SDH database is restored.
Traffic is lost during the period of spanning-tree reconvergence. The “CARLOSS (E100T, E1000F)”
alarm on page 2-51 appears and clear during this period.
Caution If you are restoring the database on multiple nodes, wait approximately one minute after the
TCC2/TCC2P reboot has completed on each node before proceeding to the next node.
Caution TCC2P cards (but not TCC2 cards) can be used in single IP address (repeater) and dual IP address
(secured) mode. The secured mode has advanced features that affect database restore: A database from
a secured node cannot be loaded on an unsecured repeater node. An unsecured database can be loaded
onto a secured node but the database will follow the node characteristics (that is, become secured). A
secured database cannot be loaded onto a TCC2. For more information about the dual IP secured mode,
refer to the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Reference Manual Chapter 12, “CTC Connectivity.”
Note The following parameters are not backed up and restored: node name, IP address, mask and gateway, and
Internet Inter-Orb Protocol (IIOP) port. If you change the node name and then restore a backed up
database with a different node name, the circuits will map to the new renamed node. Cisco recommends
keeping a record of the old and new node names.
Note To avoid a node IP and secure IP ending up in the same domain after restoring a database, ensure that
the node IP stored in the database differs in domain from that of the node in repeater mode. Also, after
restoring a database, ensure that the node IP and secure IP differ in domain.
Step 1 In CTC, log into the node where you will restore the database:
a. On the PC connected to the ONS 15454 SDH, start Netscape or Internet Explorer.
b. In the Netscape or Internet Explorer Web address (URL) field, enter the ONS 15454 SDH IP
address.
