What are command
options?
External and internal
commands
are
shown
by
the
following
symbols:
This shows
that
the
command
is internal.
This shows that
the
command
is external.
Some
of
the
MS-[)OS
commands
do
not
work
over
a
computer
network.
If
you
try
to
use
these
commands, MS-DOS displays
the
error
message "Cannot
command
to
a
network
device,"
where
command
is
the
name
of
the
command
you
typed.
If
the
command
does
not
work
over
a
network
(on
a
shared
or
remote
device), you will
see
this symbol in
the
command
description:
The
commands
that
do
not
work
over
a
network
are:
chkdsk
diskcomp
diskcopy
fdisk
format
label
recover
subst
sys
Command Options
Command options give MS·
DOS
extra
information
about
a com-
mand.
If
you
do
not
include
some
options, MS-DOS provides values
called
default
values. For
the
default values
of
particular com-
mands,
you
should
refer
to
individual
command
descriptions in
this chapter.

DOS
commands use
the
