Solving Screen Problems
Problem Possible Cause Solution
Blank screen The monitor is not
turned on, and the
monitor light is not on.
Turn the monitor on and
check that the monitor
light is on.
The cable
connections are not
correct.
Check the cable
connection from the
monitor to the computer
and to the electrical
outlet.
The Red, Green, Blue
(RGB) input switch on
the back of the
monitor is set
incorrectly.
Set the monitor’s input
switch to 75 ohms, and if
there is a sync switch,
set it to “external.” Refer
to the documentation
included with your
monitor.
You are using a fixed-
sync monitor, and it
will not sync with the
chosen resolution.
Be sure that the monitor
can accept the same
sweep rate as the
chosen resolution.
Characters on
computer display
are dim
The brightness and/or
contrast controls are
not properly set.
Press Fn+F10 to adjust
brightness.
Screen is blank and
the power/suspend
light is on
A screen blanking
utility has initiated.
Press any key and/or
enter your power-on
password to return your
information to the
screen.
Brightness and
contrast need
adjusting.
Press Fn+F10 to adjust
brightness.
Screen save has
initiated.
Press any key to return
your information to the
screen.
Screen is blank and
the power/suspend
light is blinking
Suspend is initiated. Exit Suspend by
pressing the suspend
button.
