1.3.2.3 Motor Unit
The Motor Unit is composed of (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.5):
the Motor (pos. 1) whose function is to provide the necessary power to
produce the Antenna rotation,
the Gear Reduction Box (pos. 2) whose function is to reduce the motor
angular speed,
the final gear (pos. 3) whose function is to transmit, trough the rotating
wheel, the motion, provided by the Gear Reduction, to the Antenna,
the Optical Read-out (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.30, pos. 1) whose function is
to generate the Heading Line (HL) pulse and the pulses indicating the
Antenna position (AZ).
the Rotary Joint (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.31, pos. 1) whose function is to
connect the Waveguide of the Antenna to the internal one; this part is
connected to the Waveguide (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.2 pos. 4) from the RF
HEAD
The Motor Group is connected to the Brushless Controller by means of a
cables provided with connectors for the Electric Motor supply and a cable
provided with connector for the Optical Read-Out signals.
