1.3.2.3 Motor Unit
The Motor Unit is composed of (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.5):
− the Motor (pos. 1) whose function is to provide the necessary power to
produce the Antenna rotation,
− the Gear Reduction Box (pos. 2) whose function is to reduce the motor
angular speed,
− the final gear (pos. 3) whose function is to transmit, trough the rotating
wheel, the motion, provided by the Gear Reduction, to the Antenna,
− the Optical Read-out (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.30, pos. 1) whose function is
to generate the Heading Line (HL) pulse and the pulses indicating the
Antenna position (AZ).
− the Rotary Joint (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.31, pos. 1) whose function is to
connect the Waveguide of the Antenna to the internal one; this part is
connected to the Waveguide (Chapter 9, Figure 9.1.2 pos. 4) from the RF
HEAD
− The Motor Group is connected to the Brushless Controller by means of a
cables provided with connectors for the Electric Motor supply and a cable
provided with connector for the Optical Read-Out signals.
