1 Disconnect the wiring from the backup heater contactor
terminals.
2 Remove the screws and remove the backup heater contactors
from the switch box.
3 To install the backup heater contactors, see "Repair
procedures"on page42.
To install the backup heater contactors
1 Install the backup heater contactors in the switch box and fix
them using the screws.
2 Connect the wiring to the correct backup heater contactor
terminals.
Is the problem solved? Action
Yes No further actions required.
No Return to "Checking
procedures"on page45 of the
backup heater and continue with
the next procedure.
2.5 Backup heater thermal protector
2.5.1 Checking procedures
INFORMATION
It is recommended to perform the checks in the listed
order.
To perform a mechanical check of the backup
heater thermal protector
Prerequisite: Turn OFF the unit via the user interface.
Prerequisite: Turn OFF the respective circuit breaker.
Prerequisite: Remove the required plate work, see "2.19 Plate
work"on page77.
1 Turn ON the power of the unit.
2 If the backup heater thermal protector has tripped, reset the
backup heater thermal protector by pushing the red button.
3 Remove the backup heater thermal protector sensor from the
backup heater.
4 Submerge the backup heater thermal protector sensor in water
and heat the water.
5 Measure the temperature of the water. The backup heater
thermal protector MUST trip at a temperature of approximately
92°C.

Action
Yes Perform an electrical check of the
backup heater thermal protector,
see "2.5.1Checking
procedures"on page48
No Replace the backup heater
thermal protector, see
"2.5.2Repair procedures"on
page48.
To perform an electrical check of the backup
heater thermal protector
Prerequisite: First perform a mechanical check of the backup
heater thermal protector, see "2.5.1 Checking procedures" on
page48.
Prerequisite: Turn OFF the unit via the user interface.
Prerequisite: Turn OFF the respective circuit breaker.
1 Relocate the switch box if required.
2 Remove the 2 screws from the backup heater thermal protector
bracket.
3 Remove the 2 screws and remove the backup heater thermal
protector from the bracket.
4 Disconnect the wires from the backup heater thermal protector.
5 Measure the circuit breakers between the backup heater
thermal protector terminals 11‑12, 21‑22, and 31‑32. All circuit
breakers MUST be closed.

Action
Yes Backup heater thermal protector
is OK. Return to the
troubleshooting of the specific
error and continue with the next
procedure.

1 Remove the backup heater thermal protector sensor from the
backup heater.
