Unitsmustbecheckedforwaterleaksuponinitialwatersystem
start-up.Waterleaksmaybearesultofmishandlingordamage
duringshipping.Failurebytheinstallingcontractortocheckfor
leaksuponstart-upofthewatersystemcouldresultinproperty
damage.
CAUTION
1. Openallvalvestofullopenpositionandturnon
powertotheunit.
2. Setthethermostatfor"FanOnly"operationby
selecting"Off"atthesystemswitchand"On"atthe
fanswitch.If"Auto"fanoperationisselected,the
fanwillcyclewiththecompressor.
3. Forthoseunitsthathavetwo-speedmotors,
reconnectforlowspeedoperationifnecessary
4. Setthermostatto“Cool.”Ifthethermostatisan
automaticchangeovertype,simplysetthecooling
temperaturetothelowesttemperature.Onmanual
changeovertypes,additionallyselect“Cool”atthe
systemswitch.
Again,manyunitshavetimedelayshelpprotectthe
compressor(s)againstshortcycling.
Afterafewminutesofoperation,checkthe
dischargegrillesforcoolairdelivery.Measure
thetemperaturedifferencebetweenenteringand
leavingwater.Itshouldbeapproximately1-1⁄2
timesgreaterthantheheatingmodetemperature
difference.Forexample,ifthecoolingtemperature
differenceis15°F(8°C),theheatingtemperature
differenceshouldbe10°F(5°C).
Withoutautomaticowcontrolvalves,targeta
coolingtemperaturedifferenceof10°Fto14°F(5°C
to8°C).Adjustthecombinationshutoff/balancing
valveinthereturnlinetoawaterowratewhichwill
resultinthe10˚Fto14°F(5°Cto8°C)difference.
5. Setthermostatto“Heat.”Ifthethermostatisthe
automaticchangeovertype,setsystemswitchto
the“Auto”positionanddepresstheheatsettingto
thehighesttemperature.Someunitshavebuilt-in
timedelayswhichpreventthecompressorfrom
immediatelystarting.Withmostcontrolschemes,
thefanwillstartimmediately.Afterafewminutesof
compressoroperation,checkforwarmairdelivery
atdischargegrille.Ifthisisa“coldbuilding”start-
up,leaveunitrunninguntilreturnairtotheunitisat
least65°F(18°C).
