4-4 Dell PowerEdge 6100/200 System User’s Guide
System Date
The System Date category resets the date on the com-
puter’s internal calendar.
Your system automatically displays the day of the week
corresponding to the settings in the three fields that fol-
low (month, day-of-the-month, and year).
To change the date, press <Enter>, select the appropriate
month from the dialog box, and then enter the correct
numbers in the day-of-the-month and year fields.
System Time
The System Time category resets the time on the com-
puter’s internal clock. Time is kept in a 24-hour format
(hours:minutes:seconds). To change the time, type numbers
in each of the appropriate fields.
Floppy Options Submenu
To access the Floppy Options submenu, highlight the
Floppy Options category in the Main menu and press
<Enter>. Highlight Floppy A Type or Floppy B Type
,
press <Enter>, and select the appropriate drive type:
•
360 KB, 5.25 Inch
•
1.2 MB, 5.25 Inch
•
720 KB, 3.5 Inch
•
1.44 MB, 3.5 Inch (default for diskette A)
•
2.88 MB, 3.5 Inch
•
Disabled
(default for diskette B)
You can use the Floppy Access option in conjunction
with other system security features described later in this
chapter by setting this category to Read Only. The default
setting is Read/Write.
IDE Submenus
Because the Dell PowerEdge 6100 systems only support
SCSI hard-disk drives, the categories in these submenus
are set to Not Installed.
Language
This category determines the language used in the system
basic input/output system (BIOS) prompts and system
setup program menus. The default option is English
(US). (You can also use the system configuration utility
to select the display language.)
Boot Options Submenu
To access the Boot Options submenu (see Figure 4-2),
highlight the Boot Options category in the Main menu
and press <Enter>.
The Boot Options submenu includes the following
categories.
Boot Device
The four boot device categories determine the order in
which the system checks drives for an operating system
to boot from. The first boot device category can be set to
Floppy (the default), Hard Disk, CD-ROM, or Network.
The remaining boot devices can be set to Floppy, Hard
Disk, Network, or Disabled. The default settings for the
second, third, and fourth boot device categories are Hard
Disk, Disabled, and Disabled, respectively.
System Cache
The System Cache category can be set to Enabled (the
default) or Disabled. If this option is enabled, the cache
controllers in all microprocessors in the system are ini-
tialized consistently. You may want to set System Cache
to Disabled to aid in troubleshooting software problems.
(However, be aware that system performance can
decrease with this category set to Disabled.)
