Using the System Setup Program 4-5
Figure 4-2. Boot Options Submenu
Cache Mode
This category sets the cache mode to Write Back (the
default setting) or Write Through.
Boot Speed
The Boot Speed category sets the microprocessor speed
at which your system boots. Options are the micro-
processor’s rated speed (Turbo [default setting]) or a
lower compatibility speed (Deturbo) for speed-sensitive
application programs.
Num Lock
This category controls the state of Num Lock mode at
system boot. When Num Lock is set to On
,
the rightmost
bank of keys on your keyboard provides the mathemati-
cal and numeric functions shown at the top of each key.
When Num Lock is set to Off
(the default), these keys
provide cursor-control functions according to the labels
on the bottom of each key.
Memory Test on Warm Reset
If this category is set to Enabled (the default setting), the
memory test will run if the system is restarted with the
<Ctrl><Alt><Del> key combination.
Setup Prompt
Setting this category to Enabled (the default) causes the
message Press <F1> to enter Setup to appear
while the system is booting up. If set to Disabled, the
prompt will not appear.
Typematic Rate Programming
This category determines how the system responds when
a key on the keyboard is held down. Rate Delay deter-
mines how long the key must be depressed before an
additional character is input. Rate selects how many char-
acters per second will be input once the time threshold set
by Rate Delay is reached.
