Engine
Operation
I
3.5.2 High Ambient Temperature
High Altitude
• Air density decreases as altitude or ambi-
ent temperature increase.
As a result
of
this, the engine's maximum
output, the quality
of
the exhaust gas, the
temperature level and,
in
extreme cases,
starting behaviour, are impeded.
In
the event
of
non-stationary operation,
use up to altitudes of 1000 m and tempera-
tures of
30°C
is permissible.
If the engine is to operate under unfavour-
able conditions (at higher altitudes or tem-
peratures), it will
be
necessary to reduce
the injected fuel quantity and thus, engine
power.
• Ifyou have anydoubts aboutengine opera-
tion under these or similar conditions, ask
your engine or equipment supplierwhether
the engine has been derated
in
the inter-
ests
of
reliability, service life and exhaust
gas quality (smoke!). Otherwise contact
your service representative.
