9 POSSIBLE ERROR SITUATIONS
9.1 Nothing Works
No control results in any function in the grapple, and the measuring
equipment has ”gone out”.
− The system does not get any voltage. This can be checked from the
green signal lamp at the bus distribution unit (Hub module).
− Short-circuit in the voltage supply line. Each module has a fuse in the
bus distribution unit which has red signal lamps indicating short-
circuit. The fuses of the bus distribution unit are automatic.
− If symbol ”Saw out” shows in the display even though saw is in
casing, then the sensor ”Saw home” is probably broken, or one of the
other sensors are in short-circuit. Check the ”Saw home” sensor and
the operating voltages of all sensors.
9.2 The Length Search Does Not Work
The search drives too long distances at a time, i.e. it does not manage
to stop at the correct length.
− Installation fault: the outputs ”Feed forward 1” and ”Feed backward”
have not been connected to the lowermost direction valve of the
grapple.
− The spindle of the lowermost direction valve of the grapple does not
center, which can be caused by:
1. The choke of the pressure line of the lowermost direction valve
is missing, and then the too high flow prevents centering of the
spindle.
2. The direction valve is dirty.
3. The spring of the direction valve is fatigued.
4. The expected braking distances of the measuring equipment
have been set too large (see section "7.17 Expected braking
distances").
9.3 The Displayed Length is Not Correct
The measuring wheel does not follow the stem.
− This is usually caused by too slack springs, or resinous or wear
measuring wheel.
− Faulty length sensor:
1. The sensor is old, and vibrations cause breaks in the function.
2. The sensor is not of sufficiently high quality for this exacting
task.
3. Break or loose connection in the sensor cable.
