UNIT REPAIR — PRINTER MECHANISM (M-4E60)
Repair any problems with the printer mechanism using the troubleshooting procedures in the table
below.

Symptom Condition Cause Checkpoint Solution
The pump
mechanism
does not
operate.
The PF motor
fails to rotate at
power on.
Foreign
substances are
lodged in the
mechanism gears.
Manually drive the gear
train connected to the
pump mechanism to check
whether the knob rotates.
Remove any
foreign
substances.
The PF motor is
defective.
Check the coil resistance
of the motor. Check the
PF motor drivers.
Replace the
PF motor. If PF
motor drivers
are bad,
replace the
main board
along with the
motor.
Ink is not
absorbed or
is poorly
absorbed.
Used ink does
not go through
the waste ink
tube during the
cleaning
operation.
The tube is not
properly
connected to the
cap.
Check that the tube is
properly connected to the
cap.
Insert the tube
properly.
The ink tube is
damaged.
Check the ink tube visually.
Replace the
tube.
The cap is
defective.
Check for any defective
part.
Replace the
head cap.
The pump is
defective.
Replace the pump to see if
this causes the ink to be
absorbed normally.
Replace the
pump unit.
The printhead is
defective.
Replace the printhead to
see if this causes the ink
to be absorbed normally.
Replace the
printhead.
The ink supply
tube or head
damper is not
properly
connected to the
black head.
Check that the tube and
head damper are properly
connected to the head.
Reinstall the
tube or damper
properly.
The ink supply
tube or head
damper is
damaged.
Check the ink visually.
Replace the
ink tube or
head damper.
The
carriage
motor does
not rotate.
The carriage
motor fails to
rotate at power
on.
Foreign
substances are
lodged in the
mechanism gears.
Manually drive the timing
belt to see if the carriage
motor rotates.
Remove any
foreign
substances.
The carriage
motor is defective.
Measure the coil
resistance of the CR motor.
Replace the
carriage motor.
