MX-4 USER GUIDE CHAPTER 3
18
SOURCES AND OUTPUT
Source and Output refer to the way you use devices with MX-4.
SourceA source is an input device. Each source provides a video signal, audio signal, or both.
You use the MX-4 to combine and (optionally) animate these signals.
Output — An output is a device on which you record and/or broadcast a signal. The signal might
contain video, audio, or both. This signal is often a mix of signals coming into MX-4 from one or
more sources. The output device might be a VCR with an optional monitor attached, or it might be
a live broadcast.
PREVIEW AND PROGRAM MONITORS
The MX-4 designates monitors as either Preview or Program to indicate how a particular monitor
may be used. This manual uses the following picture to distinguish between the two monitors.
