HPS 273 and 407 Rotary Screw Compressor
Operation
4. After starting the compressor and it is operating, Frick
suggests maintaining suction gas superheat at a mini-
mum of 10°F. If operating at lower than 10°F suction
superheat consult the factory.
5. During shutdown, to avoid condensation on the inlet
side, complete the following steps:
a. Equalize the unit pressure to suction as quickly as
possible
b. While the unit is at standstill, turn on oil heating
and heat tracing to keep the oil warm. Use of heat
tracing or insulation on the SB-3 oil line is particu-
larly important because it feeds oil to the com-
pressor bearings and shaft seal. If using a water or
brine-cooled oil cooler, stop water or brine ow to
prevent oil cooling when the unit is not operating.
c. Evaporate all condensation in the unit before you
restart the unit.
Warning
Restarting the compressor unit with condensate
inside could lead to a catastrophic failure of the
compressor. It is important that all condensation in
the unit is completely evaporated before restarting
the unit.
Control system
The HPS compressor and package requires a dedicated
control system, either Quantum or UNISAB. For details on
operation of these control systems, refer to the respective
IOM manuals.
