Compressor prestart checklist
The installer must check and complete the following items before the arrival of the Frick Field Service Supervisor. You can nd
details on the checklist in this manual. Certain items on this checklist are reveried by the Frick Field Service Supervisor before
the actual start-up.
Mechanical checks
o Package installed according to Frick publication
070.210-IB, Screw Compressor Foundations
o Conrm that motor disconnect is open
o Isolate suction pressure transducer
o Pressure test and leak check unit
o Evacuate unit
o Remove compressor drive coupling guard
o Remove coupling center and do not reinstall
(motor rotation must be checked without center)
o Check for correct position of all hand, stop, and check
valves before charging unit with oil or refrigerant
o Charge unit with correct type and quantity of oil
o Lubricate electric drive motor bearings before
checking motor rotation
o Check oil pump alignment, if applicable
o Check for correct economizer piping, if applicable
o Check separate source of liquid refrigerant supply (if
applicable, liquid injection oil cooling)
o Check water supply for water-cooled oil cooler (if ap-
plicable, water cooled oil cooling)
o Check thermosyphon receiver refrigerant level (if ap-
plicable, thermosyphon oil cooling)
o Check for correct pipe supports and correct foundation
o Check to ensure all piping including relief valves is
completed
o Verify that the balance piston regulator has been spec’d
for the application
o If piped in the eld, check if the balance piston regulator
has been piped correctly
o If using a motorized balance piston regulator, verify the
settings in the controller
o If using automatic main oil ow regulation, verify the
setup for the application
o Verify that the controller is set up for the suction pres-
sure limitation for the given Vi range
o Verify that the main oil injection is piped to the correct
port. For example, SM1 must only be used if the Vi range
is between 2.2 and 5.0
o Check if heat tracing and insulation is adequate for the
coldest day of the year (outside of compressor package)
o Turn on heating and heat tracing for at least 24 h before
initial start up
After checking and verifying the items in Mechanical checks, perform the following steps:
o Close the main disconnect from the main power supply to the motor starter.
o Close the motor starter disconnect to energize the micro.
o Manually energize oil pump and check oil pump motor rotation.
o Leave micro energized to ensure oil heaters are on and oil temperature is correct for start-up.
Do not energize compressor drive motor. Only authorized factory eld service technicians are to perform this.
Complete the above items before the Frick Field Service Supervisor arrives
.
Ensure there is an uncoupled compressor drive
unit, to verify motor rotation and alignment, and energized oil heaters with the oil at the correct standby temperatures
. Full
compliance with the above items contributes to a quick, efcient, and smooth start-up.
The start-up supervisor performs the following steps:
1. Veries position of all valves
2. Veries all wiring connections
3. Veries compressor motor rotation
4. Veries oil pump motor rotation
5. Veries the percentage of FLA on the micro display
6. Veries and nalizes alignment (if applicable)
7. Calibrates slide valve and slide stop
8. Calibrates temperature and pressure readings
9. Corrects any problem in the package
