Connecting an external monitor
An external monitor can be connected to the notebook. The graphics card in your notebook supports
extended SXGA resolutions of up to 1280x1024/60 Hz and 16 bit colour depth.
• Using the [Fn]
[Fn][Fn]
[Fn] + [F10]
[F10][F10]
[F10] key combination you can switch back and forth between the external
monitor and the LCD screen.
• If your notebook is equipped with a TFT monitor, you can display the same picture on the
external monitor and the LCD screen simultaneously.
Ê Switch off the notebook and the external monitor.
Ê Connect the external monitor to the monitor port on your notebook.
Ê First switch on the monitor and then the notebook.
Setting the refresh rate for your external monitor
The refresh rate must be correctly set so that the image does not flicker.
Ê To change the refresh rate or resolution select the monitor type in the menu Start - Settings -
Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advanced - Monitor.
Ê Now select the Adapter tab.
Ê Adjust the refresh rate and then click Apply.

If the refresh rate set is too high, the monitor may be damaged. Please see the
documentation included with your monitor for the maximum possible refresh rate.
Connecting an external keyboard
You do not need to switch off your notebook.
Ê Simply connect the external keyboard to the PS/2 port on your notebook.
Connecting an external mouse
You do not need to switch off your notebook.
Ê Simply connect the mouse to the PS/2 port on your notebook.
Microsoft IntelliMouse or Fujitsu Siemens Wheel Mouse
If you want to use the Microsoft IntelliMouse or the Fujitsu Siemens Wheel Mouse as an optional
device, you need to change the settings in the BIOS Setup:
Ê Call the BIOS Setup.
Ê Select the Advanced menu.
Ê Select the Keyboard/Mouse Features field.
Ê Set the option Internal Pointing Device to Auto Disabled.
With external PS/2 mouse devices it may be necessary to reboot the notebook or to end the
Standby mode to reactivate the mouse after it has been temporarily removed.
