address), and change the Rack's address in the Network Settings page.
7.2.2 Recovering a Comander with an Inaccessible Address
However, it may be that the unit's address is not compatible with your computer's IP
address scheme, and so cannot easily be accessed over your LAN. Although you can
theoretically set the unit's IP address using the DIGI Discovery program's Configure
Network Settings option, a Comander unit with an IP address which is not 0.0.0.0 will
not accept an IP address change from the DIGI Discovery – this is to prevent
unauthorised users from changing Comander IP addresses from any location with a
connection to the Comander LAN.
In this situation, you have to force the Comander's IP address to be reset to 0.0.0.0 –
once the Comander is rebooted with that address, it will then accept a one-time IP
address change from DIGI Discovery.
To force the IP address to 0.0.0.0, you must reboot the Comander with a special
setting of the rotary FUNC switches on the rear panel – see section 3.1.3.3 above for
details.
Once the Comander unit address is set to 0.0.0.0, use the DIGI Discovery program to
detect it, then select it in the list, and click the “Configure Network Settings” option on
the left of the screen. The program displays a dialog in which you can enter the new IP
Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway settings, and click Save.
Finally, set the FUNC switches back to normal running mode, and reboot the
Comander using the Reset switch, or by clicking the Reboot command in the Discovery
program. Once the unit has restarted, you should be able to access its Configurator by
typing the correct address into your browser.
Please note that you should never select the option to
“Automatically obtain network settings via DHCP” – all
Comander systems use fixed, static IP addressing schemes.
