8.3 Serial Cable Connections
The provision of four different serial (RS232) connection formats on the Comander
Rack rear panel ensures that any standard 9-pin RS232 cable connection will work on
one of the four pairs of sockets. For details see section 1.3.2 above.
8.4 Power Supply Requirements
A Comander Rack requires mains power, at either 230V or 115V AC, and consumes
approximately 25W.
8.5 Earth and Lightning Protection
Comander's Marshalling Box inputs all have heavy-duty lightning protection devices
which protect their inputs from lightning strikes, but to achieve this protection, the
Marshalling Box earth terminal must be connected to a good-quality earth using thick
braided cable. The Rack rear panel includes an earth stud, which should also be
connected to a high-quality earth.
8.6 Environmental Specification
Operating temperature range: Industrial (-40°C - +85°C)
EMC: BSEN 61000-6-3-2007 Emissions
EMC: BSEN 50130-4: 1995 + A1:1998 + A2: 2003 Susceptibility
Environment: Comander Rack and Marshalling Box units are not weatherproof rated,
and must be located in a weatherproof building or cabinet.
