When exiting the pit and/or the car roof, the maintenance technician is advised to ensure that no
equipment or tools have been left behind that can impair smooth operation of the lift or even
cause accidents.

LIFT MOVEMENT (CAR) EN81-20 + EN81-21
IN BY-PASS MODE
The electrical cabinet is fitted with devices to bypass the car doors, or landing doors, and/or door closing if
present, to search for possible faults on the safety series.
The bypass devices are identified by BYPASS labels (see pictures attached). The bypass label indicates the
circuit that can be bypassed.
The bypass device is activated by moving one of the connectors from its normal position to the
bypass position. More than one bypass device cannot be activated at the same time, the lift would
shut down.
With a bypass device activated:
a) Normal operation controls, including the operation of any automatic motorised door, are
neutralised
b) Contacts for the landing doors, landing door locking devices, car door(s) and car door locking
device(s) can be bypassed
c) Contacts for the landing and car doors cannot by bypassed at the same time
d) The car door is fitted with a monitoring contact to check that the door is closed even if the contacts
are bypassed, to enable movement with the door properly closed
e) In case of manual landing doors, the contacts for the landing doors and landing door locking
devices cannot be bypassed at the same time
f) Car movement is only possible during inspection operation, or using the electrical emergency
operation
g) An audible signal and a flashing light under the car are activated during the movement
ROPES REPLACEMENT AND DISCARD CRITERIA
Discard criteria
DEPEND ON THE NUMBER OF STROKES,
THE NUMBER OF YEARS OR VISIBLE DAMAGE
Coated steel ropes must be replaced when the maximum number of runs (see TDC), or years of service life
(from the type-examination issued by TUV SUD CA 563) or when one of the discard criteria indicated in the
rope operation manual occurs.
