Note: I
Operating the engine without an air filter, or with a damaged air filter, will allow dirt
to enter the engine, causing rapid engine wear. This type of damage is not covered.
AIR FILTER INSPECTION AND CLEANING
CAUTION! A
The air filter must be serviced (cleaned) after 25 hours normal working. Service more
frequently when operating the machine in extremely dusty areas.
Shut off the engine before performing any service on the machine. Wait till all moving
parts are completely stopped and disconnect the spark plug.
1. Remove the fasteners
(fig. 32A-33) and the air filter cover.
2. To remove the filter, lift the end of the filter and then pull the filter off the intake (fig. 34).
3. Remove the pre-cleaner, if equipped, from the filter.
4. To loosen debris, gently tap the filter on a hard surface. If the filter is excessively dirty,
replace with a new filter.
5. Wash the pre-cleaner in liquid detergent and water. Then allow it to thoroughly air dry. Do
not oil the pre-cleaner.
6. Assemble the dry pre-cleaner to the filter.
7. Install the filter on the intake. Push the end of the filter into the base as shown. Make sure
filter fits securely in the base.
8. Install air filter cover and secure with fasteners.
Note: I
Replace filter if frayed, torn, damaged or unable to be cleaned.
SPARK PLUG
For best results, replace the spark plug every 100 hours of use. Use only the recommended spark
plug which is the correct heat range for normal engine operating temperatures. To find actual
types of recommended spark plugs please contact an authorized service center.
CAUTION! A
If the engine was in operation before a short time, let it cool down. Be carefull not
to touch this parts.
Incorrect spark plugs can cause engine damage.
For good performance, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits.
1. Disconnect the cap
(fig. 35A-36) from the spark plug and remove any dirt from the spark
plug area.
2. Use the proper size spark plug wrench (fig. 37) to remove the spark plug.
3. Inspect the spark plug. Replace it if damaged, badly fouled, if the sealing washer is in poor
condition, or if the electrode is worn.
4. Measure the electrode gap
(fig. 38) with a suitable gauge. The correct gap is listed in
the Specifications. If adjustment is needed, correct the gap by carefully bending the side
electrode.
5. Install the spark plug carefully, by hand, to avoid cross-threading.
