10.4 Angle functions
Definitions
Sine:
sin α = a / c
Cosine:
cos α = b / c
Tangent:
tanα = a / b = sin α / cos α
where
c is the side opposite the right angle
a is the side opposite the angle α
b is the third side.
The control can find the angle from the tangent:
α = arctan (a / b) = arctan (sin α / cos α)
Example:
a = 25 mm
b = 50 mm
α = arctan (a / b) = arctan 0.5 = 26.57°
Furthermore:
a² + b² = c² (where a² = a x a)
c = (a
2
+ b
2
)
Programming trigonometric functions
Press the TRIGONOMETRY soft key to call the trigonometric
functions. The control then displays the soft keys listed in the table
below:
Soft key Function
FN 6: SINUS
e. g., FN 6: Q20 = SIN-Q5
Calculate and assign the sine of an angle in
degrees (°)
FN 7: COSINE
e. g., FN 7: Q21 = COS-Q5
Calculate and assign the cosine of an angle in
degrees (°)
FN 8: ROOT SUM OF SQUARES
e. g., FN 8: Q10 = +5 LEN +4
Calculate and assign lengths from two values
FN 13: ANGLE
e. g., FN 13: Q20 = +25 ANG-Q1
Calculate and assign an angle with the arc
tangent from the opposite and adjacent sides or
with the sine and cosine of the angle (0 < angle
< 360°)
