This section describes how to control the instrument using its RS-232C interface.

4.1 RS-232C Settings and Connection
(Before Using Command Communications)
Always turn both devices OFF when connecting and disconnecting an interface con-
nector. Otherwise, an electric shock accident may occur.
To avoid damage to the instrument, do not short-circuit the terminal and do not input
voltage to the terminal.
Be sure to connect the cable to the target device’s RS-232C connector. Connecting
the cable to a connector with different electrical specifications may cause electric
shock or equipment damage.
After connecting, always tighten the connector screws. If the connector is not secured, oper-
ation may fail to meet specifications, and damage could result.
Caution
Use the LAN, RS-232C, or GP-IB interface. Using multiple interfaces simultaneously may cause the instru-
ment to malfunction, for example by interrupting communications.

9638 RS-232C Cable (for a D-sub 25-pin connector)

Note: When using a USB-serial converter to connect the instrument to a com-
puter, you may need a gender converter and a straight-cross converter.
