HARD STARTING OR STALLS AFTER STARTING
Possible Cause Correction
Throttle grip not in START position
(tiller handle type).
Turn throttle grip to START position (p. 49).
Fast idle lever raised (remote control/side-mount type). Leave fast idle lever in the START position (p. 52).
Fuel vent closed (portable fuel tank). Open fuel filler cap vent (p. 36).
Fuel hose not primed. Squeeze priming bulb (p. 47).
Fuel filter or fuel tank filter clogged. Replace fuel filters (p. 87 and 91).
Bad fuel; outboard motor stored without treating or
draining gasoline, or refueled with bad fuel.
Drain fuel tank and vapor separator (p. 98). Refill with
fresh gasoline (p. 84).
