5. Remove the fan hood (see Fan vent on page 39).
6. Remove the heat sink (see Heat sink on page 40).
Remove the processor:
1. Slightly press the locking lever, and then slide the locking lever (1) to the right until it can swing back.
2. Swing the locking lever (2) to its fully open position.
3. Swing the microprocessor retainer (3) to its fully open position.
4. Carefully remove the processor from the socket (4).
IMPORTANT: Do not handle the pins in the processor socket. These pins are fragile, and handling
them could cause irreparable damage. If pins are damaged, you might have to replace the system
board.
The heat sink must be installed within 24 hours of installing the processor to prevent damage to
the processor’s solder connections.
To replace the processor, reverse the removal procedures. Be sure that the triangle icon on the corner of
the processor (1) aligns with the triangle icon on the processor socket (2).
NOTE: After installing a new processor onto the system board, always update the system ROM to
ensure that the latest version of the BIOS is being used on the computer. You can find the latest system
BIOS on the web at: https://support.hp.com/us-en.
