Removal and replacement procedures 54

IMPORTANT: Processor socket 1 must be populated at all times or the server does not function.

In a multiprocessor configuration, to optimize system performance, HP recommends balancing the total
capacity of the DIMMs across the processors.
To remove the component:
1. Power down the server (on page 31).
2. Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3. Do one of the following:

5. Remove the air baffle ("Air baffle" on page 42).
6. Remove the heatsink ("Heatsink" on page 51).

CAUTION: The pins on the processor socket are very fragile. Any damage to them may require
replacing the system board.

7. Open each of the processor locking levers in the order indicated, and then open the processor retaining
bracket.

CAUTION: To avoid damage to the processor, do not touch the bottom of the processor,
especially the contact area.
