o For the most efficient use of drive space, the drives must have approximately the same capacity.
Each configuration utility treats every physical drive in an array as if it has the same capacity as the
smallest drive in the array. Any excess capacity of a particular drive cannot be used in the array and
so is unavailable for data storage.
Removing a drive blank
1. Do one of the following:
o For tower models, open and remove the tower bezel (on page 30).
o For rack models, if installed, remove the security bezel ("Remove the security bezel (optional)" on
page 30).
2. Remove the drive blank.
Installing a hot-plug drive
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from electric shock, do not install more than one drive
carrier at a time.
The server can support up to 24 drives in an LFF configuration and up to 48 drives in an SFF configuration.
To install the component:
1. Do one of the following:
o For tower models, open and remove the tower bezel (on page 30).
o For rack models, if installed, remove the security bezel ("Remove the security bezel (optional)" on
page 30).
2. Remove the drive blank ("Removing a drive blank" on page 57).
