The server may be located in an office space or a purpose-made equipment room. The location must:
Comply with local health and safety regulations.
Be clean, tidy, and free of excessive dust and vibration.
Be in an area in which the server cannot easily be disconnected from its power source.
Not be adjacent to or underneath any area or piece of equipment where liquid is stored.
Not be in a place where the server might be bumped, scratched, or disturbed.
Be within an area that is ideally locked or at minimum not accessible to unauthorized personnel.
Be within patching distance, directly or via cable management cross-patches, of the location of the WAN connection and the switch that
supplies the office/room floor network ports.
Space and airflow requirementsSpace and airflow requirements
Leave at least a 10 cm (4 in) clearance space at the front and back of the server for proper ventilation.
CAUTION:CAUTION:
The server draws in cool air through the ventilation openings on the front side, and expels warm air through the ventilation
openings on the rear side. Do not block these openings. Failure to observe this caution will result in improper airflow and
insufficient cooling that can lead to thermal damage.
Temperature requirementsTemperature requirements
To ensure continued safe and reliable equipment operation, install or position the system in a well-ventilated, climate-controlled
environment.
The maximum recommended ambient operating temperature (TMRA) for most server products is 35°C (95°F). The temperature in the room
where the rack is located must not exceed 35°C (95°F).
CAUTION:CAUTION: To reduce the risk of damage to the equipment when installing third-party options:
Do not permit optional equipment to impede airflow around the server or to increase the internal rack temperature
beyond the maximum allowable limits.
Do not exceed the manufacturer’s TMRA.
