Fibre Channel host loop configurations
You must determine how the host systems will connect to the storage subsystem.
You can connect up to four host systems directly to the storage subsystem through
Fibre Channel host ports, or you can connect more than four hosts to the Fibre
Channel storage subsystem through switches. The illustrations in the following
sections show common host system configurations when you connect to the
DS5020 Fibre Channel host ports. See “iSCSI configurations” on page 90 for more
information about host connections through iSCSI.
Note: The DS5020 supports up to 128 partitions. Configuration upgrades are
available as upgrade options. Contact your IBM reseller or marketing
representative for more information.
Redundant Fibre Channel host loops
This section provides examples of DS5020 host Fibre Channel configurations.
DS5020 host Fibre Channel SAN configurations: This section provides the
following examples of DS5020 host Fibre Channel SAN configurations:
v Redundant host direct-attached configurations, as shown in Figure 56 on page 88
v Single SAN fabric configuration, as shown in Figure 57 on page 88
v Dual SAN fabric configuration, as shown in Figure 58 on page 89
v Two storage subsystems in a dual SAN fabric configuration, as shown in
Figure 59 on page 89
v Two clusters, as shown in Figure 60 on page 90
Notes:
1. Depending on the controller firmware version for your subsystem, refer to the
following guides to find out the IBM recommended host to storage subsystem
topology for a given combination of installed operating system and multipath
device driver:
v IBM System Storage DS Storage Manager Version 10 Installation and Host
Support Guide (for storage subsystems with controller firmware version
earlier than 7.8x.xx.xx)
v IBM System Storage DS Storage Manager Version 10.8 Installation and Host
Support Guide (for storage subsystems with controller firmware version
7.8x.xx.xx or later)
2. These configurations have host and drive path failover protection and provide
high availability.
