14 PW50 Workboard Printer User Guide
Using the Card Reader
The optional card reader reads magnetic stripe cards and smart cards
when a CN3, CN4, or CK61 mobile computer is inserted in the PW50.
Before you can use the card reader, you need to:
• upgrade the CN3, CN4, or CK61 Windows Operating System (OS)
and SmartSystems Platform Bundle (SSPB) to the latest versions.
• take the necessary precautions to ensure PCI (Payment Card
Industry) compliance and protect cardholder information. For
help, see the next procedure.
To ensure PCI compliance
1 Enable encryption in the data collection application.
2 Change the Bluetooth pin from the default value before pairing.
3 Make the Bluetooth printer undiscoverable.
Using the Magnetic Stripe Reader
You can use the magnetic stripe reader to send information encoded
on a credit card or driver’s license from your printer to your mobile
computer.
To use the magnetic stripe reader
1 Insert a CN3, CN4, or CK61 mobile computer in the PW50.
2 On your mobile computer, start an application that can read
magnetic stripe data.
3 Place the readable end of the card against the reader, facing the
media compartment.
4 Swipe the card through the magnetic stripe reader.
Note: The applications used to read card information must be
certified. Work with a third-party partner to create a certified
application. Or, download one of the Intermec Developer Library
Resource Kits from www.intermec.com/idl, and then visit
www.intermec.com/support/developers forum. to search for
topics and information about how to develop a certified
application.
