What to do if JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment displays 'system timed out' error?
    • S
      Steven ThompsonAug 18, 2025
First, check all system modules and connections. Ensure the source optics module and the tunable laser source are scanning. Inspect the ribbon connection at the back of the receiver chassis for damage; unplug, check pins, reconnect, and restart the SWS application. Also, with a power meter, ensure the maximum power going into the receiver control module is greater than -11 dBm. Disconnect the fiber from the Signal Cond. Out port and measure the maximum power again; it should still be greater than -11 dBm. If not, connect the receiver to another SOM output port and measure the power again.

What to do if JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment shows 'increase span' error?
    • M
      Michael JohnstonAug 21, 2025
Check the optical connections: verify that the green end of the PM fiber connects to the Optical Output port of the tunable laser source and the other end to the Laser In port of the source optics module. Clean the fiber connectors and reconnect. Also, verify the source optics module parameters: the start wavelength should be 1519.5 nm for C-band or 1540.8 nm for L-band, and the stop wavelength should be 1575 nm for C-band or 1635 nm for L-band. Finally, use a power meter to measure the power from the laser. If the laser power is significantly lower (more than 3 dBm) than the display indicates, the laser may need repair.

What to do if JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment displays 'laser timed-out' error?
    • K
      Kevin ShepherdAug 23, 2025
Check the RS232 connection. Make sure the cable is marked PSTC 2463, connected to the Aux.1 of Laser port at the back of the SOM, and connected to the RS232 port at the back of the tunable laser source.

Why JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment measures wavelength incorrectly?
    • A
      Ariana MeyerAug 28, 2025
Check the wavelength calibration of the tunable laser source at 1520 nm and 1575 nm using a standard wave meter. If the calibration error exceeds 200 pm, recalibrate the laser source. Verify wavelength accuracy using the built-in acetylene cell; if known lines are off by more than 3 pm, recalibrate the system for wavelength. Check the calibration by looking at several known peaks and save the old and new calibrations. If the power levels are not correct, measure the power levels at critical points, such as input to the receiver control module and input to the device, where the correct power levels are >-12 dBm and >-15 dBm. Compute the loss through the control module; the correct loss is ?3 dB. If the control module is within specification, clean all connectors and try another device.

What to do if JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment laser displays 'Limit Switch, Turn power off'?
    • A
      Ann DavisAug 30, 2025
Check the power setting on the SOM. Ensure that the power setting is set at 3 dBm. If the power is set at a higher value, reset to 3 dBm and restart.

How to troubleshoot 'Calibration Completed' error on JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment?
    • C
      Carolyn ClementsSep 1, 2025
Open the SWS15100.INI file in the C:\Windows or C:\WinNT directory. Verify that the wavelengths of the two peaks are entered correctly. Also, verify that the values of Threshold1 and Threshold2 are low enough to ensure that the peaks can be found. If the values are not low enough, edit the SWS15100.INI file, restart the SWS software, and perform the wavelength calibration again.

What to do if JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment is stuck on 'Initializing'?
    • J
      Jennifer HatfieldSep 3, 2025
Re-initialize the laser: switch it off using the key, wait at least 30 seconds, and then power it on using the key.

What to do if JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment shows 'Scan Request Error'?
    • J
      Jacob EdwardsSep 6, 2025
Acquire a new scan: perform a zero loss reference for the channel and polarization state requested, and then acquire a trace.
  • S
    Stephen SmithSep 8, 2025
How to troubleshoot PDL noise in JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment?
    • M
      Mercedes FloresSep 8, 2025
The PDL computation is sensitive to the power at which the measurement is made. Ignore PDL measurements for insertion losses greater than 40 dB. If the PDL is noisy only at high insertion losses, there is no problem. If the PDL is noisy at low insertion loss, try averaging over a few scans, or filtering, or both.

    meyerskimberlySep 12, 2025
What causes large insertion loss on JDS Uniphase Industrial Equipment?
    • R
      Rebecca LopezSep 12, 2025
Repeat insertion loss measurement: Verify that the proper channel has been selected. Disconnect the DUT that is connected to the channel. Acquire a zero loss reference again. Reconnect the DUT. Repeat the measurement. If insertion loss remains large, perform a reference and measure for insertion loss again.
