6.3.1 Torque disconnect information
(Standard with vertical beaters only)
Torque disconnect operation
The 2044/2054 is equipped with a torque
disconnect type PTO in place of a clutch type PTO.
The purpose of the torque disconnect is to limit the
maximum torque to the machine, the same as a
clutch. The other feature of the torque disconnect is
the ability to automatically re-engage once the
speed of the PTO has been reduced.
The torque disconnect will drop out or disengage
under overloaded conditions which can be caused
by the beaters requiring an excessive amount of
power. The overload can come from foreign objects
in the spreader.
The torque disconnect will eliminate 95% of the
torque to the machine during an overload and will
have a loud clicking sound to indicate that it is not
driving. The PTO should be shut off and allowed to
stop. The PTO can then be slowly reengaged to
restart the machine. The torque disconnect will
automatically re-engage either as the PTO
decelerates or upon the re-engagement of the PTO.
There is no field adjustment or maintenance on the
torque disconnect. The PTO driveline must be
greased as outlined in the lubrication section of this
operators manual.
