7.2 Cold weather precautions
In freezing weather, make sure the pusher, beaters
and the hydraulic endgate are not frozen with
manure. If this appears likely, disengage PTO, turn
off the tractor engine, remove driveline, and loosen
the frozen area before loading. Immediately clean
the pusher, beaters, and hydraulic endgate after
spreading.
Check the discharge area. Be sure the hydraulic
endgate is clear of frozen material and the
discharge area is clean. Run the endgate up and
down several times and the pusher through its entire
travel before loading and after spreading to help
keep the sides clear. It is best to leave the hydraulic
endgate partially open during storage to help avoid
freezing down.
Avoid operating the machine when making
sharp turns or crossing gullies or ditches.
When working on slopes or inclines, travel
uphill or downhill. Keep the tractor
transmission in gear when going downhill.
Never check or clean the spreader while it is
operating.
Before adjusting, maintaining or repairing
the machine, perform the safety shutdown
procedure.
In extremely cold weather allow spreader
hydraulic system to warm up before loading by
slowly operating the pusher and endgate.
