9.1.2 Beater inspection
Check horizontal beater teeth for wear. If beater
teeth are worn, they can be turned over to use the
other side. If both sides are worn, the beater teeth
must be replaced.
Check vertical beater teeth for wear. Beaters are
balanced and all teeth must remain in place.
Position all teeth in either the forward position (A) or
in the laid back position (B) to affect the spread
pattern. Do not mix the two positions and do not
remove any of the teeth. Replace worn, damaged,
or missing teeth immediately.
Vertical beater tooth bolt torque should be 135 ft lbs
(18 daNm) dry. Vertical beater tooth bolts should be
checked after the first few loads and re-torqued if
necessary. Torque should be checked on a monthly
basis.
Check vertical beater paddles for mobility. The
three paddles at the base of each vertical beater
should swing freely. Clear any material that may
prevent the paddles from moving. Replace bolts
and bushings as necessary.
