10. Maintenance and storage
10.1 Lubrication
Use a good quality multipurpose grease for
lubricating bearings. Replace all damaged or
missing zerks immediately. Always clean zerks
before using grease gun. Once a month check lines
and connections on grease banks for leaks.
Roller chains
Roller chains should be lubricated with engine oil or
a spray-on chain lubricant. Operate under a no-load
condition after lubrication. This will allow the roller
chains to be thoroughly lubricated and thus
minimize heat-up during operation.
Vertical beater gearbox
When filling the beater gearbox with oil, it may take
up to 30 minutes for the oil to pass through and
around internal bearings and to level itself inside the
gearbox. Add oil through the fill hole then wait for it
to recede. Repeat this step until the oil in the sight
glass is at the proper level.
Always perform the safety shutdown
procedure before servicing, repairing, or
cleaning the machine.
It is important that the lubricating guide be
carefully followed to avoid damage to the
unit.
Pump the grease in slowly until a slight bead
forms around the bearing seals.
