Sleep(standby)andhibernationproblems
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleep(standby)modeunexpectedly.
Solution:Iftheprocessoroverheats,thecomputerautomaticallyentersleep(standby)modetoallow
thecomputertocoolandtoprotecttheprocessorandotherinternalcomponents.Checkthesettings
forsleep(standby)mode,usingPowerManager.
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleep(standby)mode(thesleep/standbyindicatorturnson)immediately
afterPower-onself-test.
Solution:Makesurethat:
Thebatteryischarged.
Theoperatingtemperatureiswithintheacceptablerange.Referto“Features”onpage11
,
“Specications”onpage12,and“Operatingenvironment”onpage13.
Ifthebatteryischargedandthetemperatureiswithinrange,havethecomputerserviced.
Problem:Thecriticallow-batteryerrormessageappears,andthecomputerimmediatelyturnsoff.
Solution:Thebatterypowerisgettinglow.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputerandplugit
intoanelectricaloutlet,orreplacethebatterywithachargedone.
Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoreturnfromsleep(standby)mode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwas
insleep(standby)mode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturniton
beforeresumingthecomputerfromthesleep(standby)mode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromthe
sleep(standby)modewithoutattachingtheexternalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplay
remainsblank,pressF6tobringupthecomputerdisplay.
Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotreturnfromsleep(standby)mode,orthesystemstatusindicator
(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)blinksslowlyandthecomputerdoesnotwork.
Solution:Ifthesystemdoesnotreturnfromsleep(standby)mode,itmayhaveenteredsleep(standby)or
hibernationmodeautomaticallybecausethebatteryisdepleted.Checkthesleep(standby)indicator.
Ifthesystemstatusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)blinksslowly,yourcomputerisinsleep
(standby)mode.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressFn.
Ifthesystemstatusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)isoff,yourcomputerisinpower-offstateor
inhibernationmode.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressthepowerbutton
toresumeoperation.
Ifthesystemstilldoesnotreturnfromsleep(standby)mode,yoursystemmaystoprespondingandyou
maynotbeabletoturnoffthecomputer.Inthiscase,youneedtoresetthecomputer.Ifyouhavenot
savedyourdata,itmaybelost.Toresetthecomputer,pressandholdthepowerbuttonfor4secondsor
more.Ifthesystemisstillnotreset,removetheacpoweradapterandthebattery.
Problem:Yourcomputerdoesnotentersleep(standby)orhibernationmode.
