Power-savingmodes
Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach
modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofthebatterypower.
Introducingthepower-savingmodes
•Screenblank.Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toturnoffpowertothe
display,doasfollows:
1.Right-clickthePowerManagerBatteryGaugeinthetaskbar.
2.SelectPoweroffdisplay.
•Sleep(standbyinWindowsXP).Insleep(standby)mode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthenthe
harddiskdriveandthecomputerdisplayareturnedoff.Whenyourcomputerwakesup,yourworkis
restoredwithinseconds.Toputyourcomputerintosleep(standby)mode,doasfollows.
ForWindows7:
1.ClickStart.
2.ClickthetrianglemarkontherightsideoftheShutdownicon;thenselectSleep.
ForWindowsXP:
1.ClickStart.
2.ClickShutdown;thenselectStandby.
•Hibernation.Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavinglesor
exitingfromanyapplicationsthatarerunning.Whenyouenterhibernation,allopenapplications,folders,
andlesaresavedtotheharddisk,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.Toenterhibernation,doasfollows.

2.ClickthetrianglemarkontherightsideoftheShutdownicon;thenselectHibernate.
ForWindowsXP:
1.ClickStart.

Toresumeyoursession,pressthepowerbuttonfornomorethan4seconds.
Whenyouarenotusingthewirelessfeatures,suchasBluetoothorwirelessLAN,turnthemoff.Thiswillhelp
conservepower.Toturnoffthewirelessfeatures,pressF9.
Enablingthewakeupfunction
Ifyouputyourcomputerintohibernationmode,andthewakeupfunctionisdisabled(thisisthedefault
setting),thecomputerdoesnotconsumeanypower.Ifthewakeupfunctionisenabled,itconsumesasmall
amountofpower.Toenablethefunction,doasfollows:
ForWindows7:
1.ClickStart➙ControlPanel➙SystemandSecurity.
2.ClickAdministrativeTools.
3.Double-clickTaskScheduler.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconrmation,type
thepasswordorprovideconrmation.
4.Fromtheleftpane,selectthetaskfolderforwhichyouwanttoenablethewakeupfunction.The
scheduledtasksaredisplayed.
