Chapter 10 Maintenance
Be sure to perform periodic maintenance and inspection in order to maintain equipment reliability.
10.1 Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
10.1.1 Preventive and Predictive Maintenance & Inspection
Operating Environment
1. Control Enclosure
a. Ambient temperature: 0 to 55° C (31 to 131° F)
b. Ambient humidity: 5 to 95% RH Non-condensing
c. Filtration and/or Cooling: Check enclosure ventilation filters and/or mechanical cooling
equipment. Check that no clutter or debris left in enclosure (documentation, test
equipment, etc.) compromises air flow or cooling vents of individual enclosure
components.
d. Check for particulate contamination on any external components like braking resistors
and etc.
2. Ambient Operating Environment
a. Ambient Temperature and Humidity: Within ranges to keep internal enclosure
environment within specifications.
b. Air Quality: Fine particulates and explosive and/or corrosive gases are not present.
3. Equipment Integrity
a. Incoming equipment voltage is within specification
b. Control system wiring terminations are secure and tight
c. All control equipment is mounted securely, and no fasteners have become loose
d. All enclosure ventilation fans and/or mechanical enclosure cooling equipment is
operational
4. Spare parts
a. Have at lease one replacement component readily available
5. Perform and additional maintenance and inspections as prescribed by the manufacturer of each
component of the control system.
This section is not intended to be a complete list of necessary maintenance and inspection
items but as a guideline for keeping your PLC and associated components healthy and in
reliable working order.
