Checking cooling system

Carry out a visual inspection of the cooling system for leaks.
X At the combination display instrument, read off the
temperature of the coolant at operational conditions.
Loss of coolant
A loss of coolant can be caused by:
z Leak in the cooling system,
z Air or exhaust fumes in the cooling system that force the
coolant out through the vents of the cooler cap,
z Damaged cylinder head gasket,
z Defective cooler cap.
Coolant temperature
Excessively high temperature indication can be caused by any
of the following:
z Coolant level too low,
z Air in the cooling system,
z Plugged cooling system,
z Defective fan or fan drive,
z Defective thermostat,
z Defective coolant thermometer,
z Error in the injection system and/or the turbocharger.
A too low temperature indication can be caused by:
z Defective thermostat,
z Defective coolant thermometer,
z Defective temperature sensor.
Have the leaks and defects repaired by qualified
technicians.
