Marantz MR2020 - Troubleshooting Guide

In case of trouble, please first check the following. A simple error in operation is often mistaken as a sign of malfunction.
If the trouble cannot be recovered by checking the following items, please consult your dealer, nearest MARANTZ distributor or
authorized service center.
Remote control is not available. % Is the transmitter of the remote control unit (RC2020MR) pointed correctly to
the remote control sensor of the main unit? Is there any obstacle between
them?
Check if the batteries in the remote control unit (RC2020MR) exhausted.
Check if the remote control sensor of the main unit exposed to strong light?
Check if the CD placed upside down?
Check if the CD is scratched or dirty.
The radio wave from the station may be weak. Install the AM loop antenna or
FM antenna to a position with the best receiving condition.
% Such a phenomenon occurs when the receiving condition in the unit’ current
location is poor. In this case, the phenomenon may be improved by changing
the AM loop antenna or FM antenna position.
% Check if the connection cords are connected securely.
x Check if there is any source of magnetism (such as a TV, motor or transformer)
near the unit.
% When the unit is stacked with an amplifier, the unit may capture humming noise
from some amplifier models.
In this case, install the unit or amplifier in a location that can reduce the inter-
ference. This also happens when the unit is installed near a TV.
Check if the MUTE button is pressed. If it is, press the MUTE button so that the
MUTE indicator disappears from the display.
Check if headphones are left connected to the headphones jack.
Check if a speaker cable is shorted at a terminal.
Are speakers connected correctly?
Check if the volume control is set to the minimum position.
Is the button pressed straight downward? The top panel buttons should be
pressed in either horizontal direction.
These buttons are invalid while the top panel is open.
The program timer of this unit cannot play the AUX input function.
CD cannot be played.
CD playback sound skips.
The receiving condition is poor.

Automatic tuning cannot receive any station.
FM stereo sound is interrupted.
Humming noise interferes with audio.

Pressing a top panel button does not acti-
vate the desired operation.
The buttons on the top panel cannot be operated

The unit may be malfunctioning.
% The unit incorporates a high-performance microcomputer. If it seems to be
malfunctioning due to static electricity, etc., unplug the power cord from the AC
outlet, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it again.
x Check if there is any object placed on the top panel.
% Check if a connection cable from the rear panel is warped and in contact with
the top panel.
x Check to see if the FM antenna connecior is making contact with the top.
{f contact is being made, replace it with the antenna plug adapter supplied.
x Is a space for ensuring the top panel movement reserved behind the unit?
x Check if there is any object caught between the top pane! and the control panel
below it.
Check if the open sensor of the main unit is exposed to strong light.
Check if there is any object left in front of the open sensor.
The top panel will not open or stops in the
middie of opening.
The top pane! will not close or stops in the
middle of closing.
The top panel opens or closes spontane-
ously.
