The flexible cable consists of a plastic sheet on to which is printed silver conductors.
The conductors are over printed with a purple insulating coating. Only one side of the
cable is vulnerable to abrasion – the side shown above.
There is evidence that the purple coating has been abraded due to contact with the
base casting and with the aluminium mounting plate slot. Exposing the conductors,
which then short to chassis (0 V), will cause LEDs to flicker or simulate the action of
pressing the jog buttons.
The remedy is to protect the purple coating from abrasion by the rough metal edges
by the application of a suitable insulating tape. Internal concession 1988 dated 16-
09-14 has been raised to de-burr and add insulation tape to the aluminium front
panel and flexible cable as shown.
