the repl ac ement sh dt, cheCK to be sure thai Ih e

a) Camshaft gear
Rep l ace th e gea r if its Leeth show e vi dence of
flaking or exce~~ave wea r, or if ltS keyway is
galled. wor n Or otherwi se d.i ~figu red . Make sure
that the c am shaf t ge ar as mou nt ed on the
c am s haft has no mor e end p la y than 0 .4 mm
(0.0157 in.): to che CK the end play , use ,dial
gauge. If t he rea ding C'x ceeds the r epair limlt .
r eplace the th ru st pla te . (Remember, lhis gear
IS shrink · fi tted to th e ca mshaft.)

(d) I dle r gear
Inspect the id ler gea r teeth and , tiS necessary ,
replace the seat .
(6) lnspecl the gear case for cracks , ;{nd for evi de nce
of oil leakage at the parI ahead of the crankshaft.

found in defec tiv e condition,
Lubrication system
Oil level check
The oU level gauge is located at lhe right.hand ' ide of
the crankcase, and cilrries two leve ' marks , upper and
lower. The o il pan contains ab ou t 7 liters (1.8 galion s)
when the oil i ~ up to th e upper mark , and a bo ut 5.5
li te" (1 .5 gallons) when it is up to the lower mark. T he
oil pan should be kept filled to the up p er mark.
