SECTION 4
Configuring the Input
Figure 4.3 gives an overview of the Configuration Input menu. This allows you to select what type
of sensor will be used with the STA unit.
If the Password Security is set to Full Access, the password sub-menu is bypassed, and the
“CONFG INPUT” menu is accessed by pressing SELECT from the View menu.
1. From the “CONFG INPUT” display, press SELECT.
2. At “SENSR TYPE” press SELECT. Use the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to scroll through
the options in the “Sensor Selection List” box, for input type. The default configuration is
CURNT.
3. When the display shows the type of input that you choose to use, press SELECT.
4. If you selected an RTD or T/C input, use the UP and DOWN buttons to select RTD or
Thermocouple that will be used; press SELECT. Next, you will be prompted to select
the temperature units. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to choose and press SELECT to
continue to the next menu.
5. Next, the “INPUT ZERO” appears. Press SELECT and use the UP or DOWN buttons to
define the input range. Press SELECT when correct value has been displayed.
6. Next, the “INPUT FULL” appears. Press SELECT and use the UP or DOWN buttons to
define the input range. Press SELECT when correct value has been displayed.
7. Next, the “INPUT OOR” (OOR = Out Of Range) appears. Press SELECT and use the
UP or DOWN buttons to select from “INPUT ZERO, INPUT FULL, or EXIT OOR”. Press
SELECT when correct value has been displayed.
8. Next, the “INPUT ZERO” appears, press SELECT and use UP or DOWN buttons to define
desirable OOR value. Press SELECT when correct value has been displayed.
9. Next, the “INPUT FULL” appears, press SELECT and use UP or DOWN buttons to define
desirable OOR value. Press SELECT when correct value has been displayed.
Note: If the input variable goes the configured amount set in INPUT OOR Menus ( 0 to 5%) out
of the range defined by INPUT ZERO and INPUT FULL, the fault relay will de-energize in an error
state, and the ERROR OOR (Out of Range) status message will be displayed. The default value
for INPUT OOR is 1% of Span. For safety applications, the INPUT OOR value must be 2% of
Span or less.
Warning: The default value for INPUT OOR is 1% of Span. For safety applications, the INPUT
OOR value must be set to 2% of Span or less.
Note: For STA units with firmware versions 1.5 and earlier, OOR is not configurable and the
value is set to 1%.
10. “EXIT SENSR” appears. If all values in this parameter have been set, press SELECT. If
not, return to the menu and set your values.
11. The next display is the “SCALE INPUT” menu. To skip the rest of the configuration
menus and return to the process variable display, press the UP or DOWN until you reach
“CONFG EXIT”, and press SELECT. Refer to “CONFG EXIT” section of this manual for
more information.
