ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
WARNING
Safety
Engine Belt Drive
Moving belts can cause serious injury or death.
Do not operate without the guards in place. Do
not attempt to touch, check, clean, or adjust the
belts during operation. Turn off the engine and
lock-out the machine before servicing.
Function
The engine belt drive provides power to the chipper drum. The belt drive consists of the belt, two sheaves, two bushings and the belt guard.
Use
The engine drive belt is housed inside the belt guard. Never remove the belt guard unless you are changing or servicing the belt. To remove the
belt guard, loosen the bolts and washers on the top and sides of the guard, lift the top of the guard off the guard base. Always replace the belt
guard and secure with the bolts and washers after the work is completed.
To get top performance from the drive belt, it is important that the belt tension is adjusted properly. At the top of the belt guard, is a door for
checking belt tension. To open the door, remove the bolt and lift open.
See Maintenance section for checking and tightening the belt tension and replacing belts.
Maintenance
Grease and oil can penetrate the belt, remove grease and oil from belt as soon as possible.
Clean the belt with a clean cloth and non-ammable cleaning solution. Soap and a mild detergent will work, but a non-ammable cleaner
is best.
Inspect sheaves for wear or damage when replacing the belt.
Never use ammable cleaning solvents on the belt,
friction may cause a re. Use non-ammable cleaners.
